ABOUT THE MEETING - 18th of May

MaryRita Bio PhotoCultivating Creativity  with Mary-Rita McGuire

As Picasso once said ‘Every Child is an Artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when we grow up”.

Creativity is often felt as something inaccessible. I believe this is due to our Western education, which drills into us that being creative is something which involves technique. What if this was only one way to view creative practice? What if you could find ways to dedicate a small amount of your day to writing, art, music, dance, storytelling, pottery? Does the final product really matter?

Join Mary in the Power of Three Zoom room to explore the benefits of creative practice and why the arts can support us with such important aspects of our lives such as well-being, sense of purpose and meaning, connection to a less cerebral part of ourselves…

This session  will explore various toolkits that can help you cultivate a space for creativity, tapping into resources linked to archetypes, storytelling, and recommended further reading to develop your practice.

This will be an interactive session, so I invite you to bring your inner child with you, the ever-present artist within! A few pencils, crayons, paints, and a blank piece of paper would be all you need to open the door to this curious child. More about Mary-Rita McGuire

About Mary-Rita McGuire

My creative journey started at the tender age of 14. I completed a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and then due to personal circumstances, took a strange career path, working in tourism for eight years. I decided to take a sabbatical to South America where I realized how important my creativity was. I started building a career working with young people in various settings, from schools, youth centers, theatres, government sectors, children’s homes and within community projects. During this time, I saw the powerful impact creativity can have on young people. I witnessed many transformations because of a simple creative practice. I went on to study a BA in Creative Expressive Therapies, specializing in Drama as a tool for well-being. This brought me to the Middle East where I developed a Drama department in the school I currently work for. During the Pandemic, the school recognized the impact of Drama on students, changing the status of the subject from an elective to mandatory for Middle and High School students. I am currently in my second year of an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology. Transpersonal Psychology has supported me in identifying a frame for my practice and I hope to continue developing the role of theatre and creativity through the lens of transpersonal theories and applications.

About Julie Lewis

As a seasoned  entrepreneur and global adventurer, I  can hold my hand on my heart and say that resilience is one of the key factors that has helped me  stand strong- emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.

I’ve had a lifetime of  experiences that have helped to  build  my  current level of resilience. Leaving home at 11 years old  to attend a private boarding school, working in the Middle East, being held at gunpoint in the desert during the Iraq invasion , widowed, blown off mountains , pulled out from the English channel ,  slumps in business , death of a loved one and in 2018-2020 supporting my husband through a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. The good news he is now 100 % clear. I’ve also had lots of great experiences traveling the world, leading teams on over 60 expeditions, climbed several high -altitude mountains , published a book ( Moving Mountains- Discover the Mountain in You )  and enjoy an active social  and family life. In addition to this I have backed my practical experience with studies and certification in Resilience through Nicholson McBride  ( Business Psychologists ) and Penn University.

The Ghaf Tree is the National Tree of the United Arab Emirates where I have lived and worked for the last 20 years.

The Ghaf is a drought tolerant, evergreen tree and is possibly the sturdiest plant of the harsh desert environment. These qualities make it the perfect tree to be associated with our programs.

We have teamed up with Goumbook’s Give A Ghaf Planting Program and will purchase and plant a Ghaf seed from your donations.
